Silicone rubber is a high molecular weight (molecular weight is generally 400,000 ~ 800,000) of polysiloxane (namely raw rubber) with reinforcing filler and other additives, using organic peroxide as curing agent, by pressure molding (molding, extrusion, calensing) or injection molding, and at high temperature cross chain into rubber. This rubber is commonly referred to as silicone rubber for short.

High temperature vulcanization of silicone rubber is generally divided into two stages, the first stage is the silicon raw rubber, reinforcing agent, additives, curing agent and structure control agent mixing, and then the mixing material in the metal mold pressure heating molding and curing, the pressure is about 50 kg /cm2, the temperature is 120 ~ 130ºC, the time is 10 ~ 30 minutes, The second stage is to remove the silicon rubber from the mold, put it in the oven, at 200 ~ 250ºC for a few hours to 24 hours. The rubber is further vulcanized, and the organic peroxide is decomposed and volatilized.

 

 

  

The reinforcing filler of silicone rubber is various types of silica, which can increase the strength of vulcanized rubber by ten times. Adding various additives is mainly to reduce the cost of rubber, improve the properties of rubber and give vulcanized rubber various special properties such as flame retardant, conductive and so on. Cross-chain agents are a variety of organic peroxides, such as benzoyl peroxide,2, 4-dichloroyl peroxide, diaqueryl peroxide,2, 5-di-butylperoxyhexane, etc. Structure control agent is for avoid the mixing material placed for a long time, the "structure" to make the rubber harder and harder, and difficult to process and mature. 

The side groups on the main chain of silicone rubber can be methyl, ethyl, vinyl, phenyl, trifluoropropyl and so on. Methyl groups are most commonly used, but other groups can also be introduced to improve machining properties and other properties. Therefore, according to the different side group and adhesive formula, you can get a variety of different uses of silicone rubber, generally can be divided into the following types: general type (including methyl and vinyl), high temperature and low temperature type (including phenyl, methyl and vinyl), low compression permanent deformation (including methyl and vinyl), low shrinkage (to volatile) and solvent resistance (fluorine silicone rubber).
